SOPHIE BYFORD
Services
My approach centres around the gentle and correct education of the horse; prioritising their wellbeing, whilst building a foundation of knowledge and experience that they can draw upon for a lifetime.
I put time in to groundwork (long lining, poles etc) to ensure the the horse builds muscle and a strong core which enables them to carry themselves. I believe it's important to build confidence, and not over-phase them before they're ready. I have soft hands and a strong seat, and encourage horses to go forwards into the contact resulting in confident, able horses who enjoy their job.

About
History
Born to a mother who herself evented, the sport is without doubt in my blood. Riding was an inevitability, and as she would proudly tell you, I was in the saddle long before I could even walk.
My early days were based on naughty shetlands and (arguably naughtier) 12.2's, working my way through pony club, and being so desperate to get back from school to ride that I would change into my jodhpurs in the 5-minute drive home to ensure no time was wasted!
I've had a host of amazing ponies and horses, each of which I produced; achieving 3rd place at Badminton Grassroots (Texas Ranger); selection for the European young rider team; being shortlisted for the BE Podium Potential Pathway; 12th place at Osberton CCI-L 3* (Handsome); and even seeing even seeing one of my horses show jumping at Olympia.
Based near Saffron Walden at my own private yard, I now focus my time on readying my horses for the eventing season, as well as producing young horses either for clients or for sale, across a mix of disciplines.
